HAIR STYLISTS ONLY: Please see below??!!?

If you were to recommend an over the counter hair color which is best? And why? And for gray coverage? Also, what's the difference from the salon color (going ot a salon to get a color) %26amp; doing it yourself at home out of a box? I usually go to a salon, but sometimes get in a pinch %26amp; can't go. Thx!!

Salon color is very different than over the counter. For one, Salon color uses different strengths of peroxide or developer to get the desired effect. 10, 20, 30 and 40 volume developer. 10 volume is usually used to cover Grey or can be used to pre- soften the stubborn greys so you get better coverage. The higher levels of developer will lift the the natural color of your hair before depositing color. 20 volume (usually lifts two shades, 30 volume, 3 shades, and so on)

Generally, over the counter hair color if you pick a blonde shade for very dark hair you will not get the desired color because over the counter only gives you one type of developer in the box.

I would really need to know what your natural color is to say what is best. If you can afford it, go to a salon. If you are in a pinch you can try a temporary color they are not permanent and will wash out with time. But if you are going to a salon, you have to be careful about mixing brands, you can have a whole host of problems mixing store bought color with salon color.

over the counter hair colors have metals and leads in them. They do more damage to your hair than good. Also if you ever wanted to perm your hair, you couldn't if you have used a box color. At a salon, they will find and match the color(s), you need and want, and tell you how to maintain their longivity.
