Hair Coloring/At Home /Permenant Type?

I am in my 50's and suddenly my light blond hair is over 80 percent very stubblrn gray! I have tried so called better color brands of color at home. To see after using them I can still see gray! Or within 2 weeks of using the permenant color was applied raging gray roots. At this point what are my options? What is a old woman to do?

Thank you for your kindness

As a Hair Stylist my advice is this SAY NO TO AT HOME COLOR!!! It comes in a box and can not in anyway be specifically designed for YOUR hair. A lot of people think that we just want the money for doing the colors and that is completely untrue. Everyone's hair is unique and requires it's own special formula that only a hair stylist can give you. You are going to spend just as much going through box after box of color than just going to the salon once to get it done. Every time there after would just be a "retouch" and would only have to be put on the new hair that has grown out.

I hope this helps!!!

u need to go to a hair supply store and buy one bottle of developer and 2 applications of color sold separately like just buy the tubes not the boxed dyes and then when u get home first u will need to just add one of the color tubes to ur roots let it sit for 25 min without the developer added then after 25 min rinse out the color and then 2nd u need to mix the other color tube to the developer make sure there the same oounces 2.0 is the limmit add them together on 2nd round and place this all over ur hair let it sit for another 25 min then rinse out and woohoo grey should be gone i had to do this for my mother alot

it is not easy to keep color in your hair you must color at least once a month, although the color basicically stays on your end, just fades some your roots must have the color to retouch the roots either proffessional color or home brands are goo especially the high end colors very important is you have someone do you roots because you have to see every area clearly to get good coverage stick to neutral colors and add 2 caps sunblonde brown to almost any color that helps more good luck

As a hairstylist, I have many woman come to me with the same problem you have. First off, coloring hair with over the counter products is a nono for grey hair that is 50 percent or better. I work for a salon called smartstyle and we use what we call the 500 series in socolor. It is formulated with double the amount of hair pigment molecules to ensure better coverage. Use also want to use a neutral base for covering the grey. As far as seeing your roots after two weeks, you can not control how fast your hair grows.

With gray hair it is very resistant. There is no pigment in there, and nothing for the colour to latch onto. The only chance you have is to get your hair presoftened first before you apply the colour.Which you would have to go to a salon to get done. That way it opens up the hair, and enables it to accept the colour. If you are over 55,usually they have senior discouts. When you think about it, colour at a salon isn't alot more than drug store colour, and we know what we are doing. It is worth it, instead of colouring your hair every 2 weeks at home, and drying it out. That would be your best option.Good luck.
